The January transfer window is always a time of feverish rumour and possible big-money deals. Several notable footballers find themselves linked with moves out of their current teams. Here is a look at some of the top figures who are poised to be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' failure to reach the AFCON, this has kept the player in contention, it appears a significant transfer is close. This 25-year-old has a contract with a sizeable release clause applicable for a two-week period in early January. Recent reports suggest Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his signature. Other suitors such as Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have moved on to other options, potentially opening the door for teams such as Manchester United or Liverpool to make a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

The England centre-back has impress for Palace despite a previous transfer to Liverpool falling through. With his deal set to expire in the close season, January is the club's final opportunity to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, such as Manchester City and several European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to be interested. However, a January departure is considered unlikely, especially given the coach's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

This Wales forward has had starting opportunities limited at Spurs this campaign. Despite finishing as the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has begun just a small number of Premier League matches. It is understood the North London outfit would be willing to consider a sale for the right price, thought to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries are currently leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also credited with an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be set for a return to the Premier League following a period in the Saudi Pro League. Still only twenty-eight, and with his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the player. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spanish media that he would be willing to take a pay cut for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The veteran German shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barcelona following the manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and had surgery, a winter departure looks increasingly likely. Villa were once mentioned as a possible destination, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

This prolific English centre-forward has kept scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might boost his dwindling hopes of being in the England World Cup. But, securing a transfer presents significant challenges. Al-Ahli do not wish to part with him, and his reported enormous weekly wages render any move complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been linked as admirers.

Conor Gallagher

This energetic midfielder drew considerable interest in the summer but remained at Atlético Madrid. Having few starting appearances in Spain this term, he may be keen to secure more playing time ahead of the World Cup. Manchester United have been strongly linked, and a move back to Crystal Palace, a club he excelled on loan, is also a option, though wage demands might prove a problem.

Harvey Elliott

Although starring and being named player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, the young midfielder has struggled for game time during his loan spell at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has stated the temporary transfer won't be made permanent. Due to specific rules regarding representing multiple teams in a campaign, a move back to Liverpool prior to next summer seems to be the sole available solution.

K. Yildiz

The exciting Turkey forward has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this season. With his existing contract nearing its end, a host of English sides – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the situation. The Turin club are eager to tie down the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but are in a battle to keep one of Europe's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to make a major move in January. Newcastle United are believed to be frontrunners, but could face stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a deal priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
