Ideally, they'd want an contest for the urn in Australia where they still have a chance to reclaim the urn once the opening games are done.

That will not be happening this time, though, after a comprehensive 82-run win in Adelaide put the hosts with a 3-0 lead for the fourth consecutive series on their own soil.

The loyal traveling fans, the organized fan base, have thousands of supporters making the journey for the last two matches in the SCG and MCG.

There are also organized trips who will celebrate the holidays down under, as well as families and friends embarking on a special expedition.

The Disappointed Travelers

A group of four supporters are among those affected.

Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie had their flights and tickets arranged for the fourth and fifth Tests "a full year in advance", dreaming of a rare England series success.

Instead, they have watched Australia defeat England convincingly in just under two weeks from their house in Penwortham, Lancashire.

"People in the office has been teasing me about it being over for the last two weeks," said Sam.

"We always thought that we would have a meaningful contest upon our arrival."

Lowered Expectations

Hope was abundant regarding the team's prospects of securing a first win in 15 years for a series win in Australia ahead of the tour.

Yet now they are looking at the possibility of extending their winless run in the country to 19 matches when the fourth Test gets under way in Melbourne this week.

The England team - and their followers - will be desperate to avoid a clean sweep.

Alex said the "entertainment" of head coach Brendon McCullum's 'Bazball' in recent times had "reinvigorated" the five-day game for England fans.

Yet the fans said they had low expectations for the fourth and fifth Tests - and all they are hoping for from the players is "a show of spirit".

"Commentators consistently references this, but it all hinges on psychological strength. 'This style has been elevated to a term now that is just, like, nonsense cricket," commented another sibling.

"During a long match, you should hunker down. Wafting outside 'wide of off stump has never been in the textbooks, and that is largely because of the frontline batsmen."

The Remaining Matches

When questioned if he believed England will secure a victory in the current series, Sam said: "The evidence suggests the Australians are superior at the moment."

"There is going to have to be multiple performers that stands up for England and produces a match-winning display."

Despite the scoreline, the fans are anticipating the trip.

"We will have a fantastic experience regardless," said Katie. "We must adopt that mindset."

"Of course, it's unfortunate we aren't fighting for more, but we have made a substantial financial commitment as it is."

"We'll enjoy having Christmas and New Year overseas. Additionally, it's our first experience traveling at this time of year."

A teacher, Katie is focused on enjoying the long-haul travel as part of her Christmas holidays.

"If all else fails, there's always golf to turn to," she finished.
