New Year's Revelers Urged to Dress Warmly with Snowfall Forecast Throughout the UK
Meteorologists are saying an icy commencement to the new year, with wintry precipitation likely throughout a lot of the UK. Celebrants are being urged to bundle up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Plans Go Ahead In Spite of Warnings
Edinburgh's renowned Hogmanay celebrations are expected to go ahead, unlike last year's cancellation. This comes despite yellow warnings for snow in northern Scotland.
"A cold New Year's Eve night for those partying, so extra layers will be needed," noted the national forecaster.
Displays Under Open but Cold Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is set to be ideal for fireworks displays, with a lack of precipitation and good visibility. Temperatures are expected to be low, making additional clothing vital, according to forecasters.
In more northern areas, conditions will be more overcast, but this is unlikely to affect visibility for viewing fireworks. "It won't be low cloud, mist or murk, so you will likely be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Broad Weather Alerts for New Year's Day
Heading into Friday, snow alerts are active across Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.

- Disruptions and cancellations are likely on the transport network.
Readings Expected to Plummet Even More
Going into the new year, it will be "chilly no matter where you are," said forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are set to drop further as snowfall and high winds are expected to batter the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow is expected to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the most elevated routes and peaks.
Medical Warnings Activated
Meanwhile, amber-level health advisories have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to stay active until noon on 5 January, with readings forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Officials said this meant the weather could to cause major effects across health and social care services. This includes a expected uptick in the fatality numbers among vulnerable individuals or those 65 and older.
