Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was found guilty of plotting a government overthrow in September and sentenced more than over two decades in incarceration, but he was staying under home detention pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" were revealed.
