The Gunners' boss remains confident that his side can continue to cope with fitness issues following revealing that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for the coming weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

The German forward has been sidelined for months following knee surgery. Originally slated to return sooner, Arteta explained the player encountered a problem when increasing his recovery and could not progress “the next phase.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a team that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This update presents a dilemma for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position against Chelsea, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly from a muscle injury as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is in contention post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Remain

Further fitness issues surround defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the weekend encounter. Consequently, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to keep their places in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta feels the substantial investment on reinforcements ahead of this season has left Arsenal in a much stronger position to handle such absences.

Greater Options Key to Premier League Pursuit

Questioned if a larger pool of players was aiding their title quest, the manager agreed. “Absolutely, since the current term has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now the situation with the defence,” he added.

“We learned from the past that we must deploy players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to adapt to new tasks if we want to compete at the top. And the instance of Mikel is just the best one.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Star

Addressing the setback previously mentioned by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the subsequent stage and now the signs are like we have overcome that hurdle.”

Arteta expressed his eagerness to welcome him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. Honestly, Havertz is someone that, for me, I love so much for his contributions to the team, but his character, his personality. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”
