2026 Car Specifications

The 2026 cars will be reduced in size and weight relative to current models, with a wheelbase cut by 200mm to 3,400mm, width narrowed by 100mm – down to 1,900mm – and the minimum weight lowered by 30kg.

Cumulative downforce is projected to decrease by approximately a significant margin, although teams will undoubtedly recover some as they optimize their packages.

Air resistance has been slashed by 40%. The vehicles will feature active aerodynamics – front and rear wings will adjust on the straight sections to cut resistance and boost top speed and click back into place for maximum cornering performance.

2026 Engine Regulations

The revised hybrid units will have an approximate 50-50 split in horsepower generated by the petrol engine and the ERS, a rise from about 20% electrical under present rules.

The ERS setup is streamlined through the elimination of the MGU-H, the complicated and costly unit that recovered energy from the exhaust turbo.

All vehicles will be required to run on 100% sustainable fuel, produced using plant-based materials or synthetic production methods.
